• Two thirds of parents find the summer holidays stressful

• To help parents have a little more ‘me time’, Aldi launches first-ever Specialbuy Spa Day, all for the price of a story from the school holidays

Recent research has revealed that nearly half (44%) of Dads admit to hiding from their kids to get a little more ‘me time’ during the school summer holidays.

The survey of over 1,000 parents by discount supermarket Aldi found that Dads are the most creative when it comes to getting some peace and quiet, with over a fifth (21%) pretending to be asleep, or even sending their children to bed before 6pm (17%).

For mums, a quarter (24%) say their ideal way of spending the day the kids go back to school is being pampered, however in reality over half (50%) will spend the day catching up on housework and resetting the home after the holidays.

With two thirds (66%) of parents revealing they find the school holidays stressful and a struggle to find time for themselves, Aldi is launching its first-ever Specialbuy Spa Day that will only cost parents a funny anecdote from the school summer holidays.

To get some well-deserved respite, all parents need to do is email AldiSpaDay@Clarioncomms.co.uk with their story before midnight on 6th September and 100 people will secure a £75 Spa Day voucher.

Additional Research Findings:

• 49% of parents look forward to kids going back to school so they can relax more

• Two in five (39%) mums say the holidays are too long. In contrast, a fifth (19%) of dads say they’re not long enough

• A quarter (25%) have made household chores into games to keep them entertained

• 23% are counting down the days until the school gates open

• A fifth (18%) have resorted to everything from hiding in the toilet

• Keeping kids entertained seems to be more challenging in the South with parents in the South East (47%) and South West (47%) most likely to say the holidays are too long, whereas, parents in the East Midlands (23%) and Scotland (21%) are most likely to say the holidays are too short

• The top five ways parents will spend the day the kids go back to school are:

1. Catching up on housework (45%)

2. Going back to work (43%)

3. Watching TV (25%)

4. Catching up with friends (18%)

5. Pampering themselves (15%)
