As the creator of one of the Cosmo’s defining ingredients - cranberry juice – Ocean Spray have unveiled two new serves ahead of National Cosmopolitan Day (Thursday 7th May) in collaboration with mixologist Ed To and podcaster, Lennie Ware.

London, 5th May 2026: Ocean Spray®, the world’s leading producer of cranberry juices, juice drinks and dried cranberries, has today unveiled a collection of new Cosmopolitan serves ahead of National Cosmopolitan Day (7th May), reimagining the iconic cocktail for modern tastes.

Created in partnership with mixologist Ed To and Table Manners podcaster Lennie Ware, the new serves have been developed as a result of the enduring resurgence of “newstalgia” in culture, which has seen the blending of familiar, comforting and nostalgic flavours with modern twists, ingredients and formats in the cocktail scene.

The reinventions also come as consumers confirm they are seeking out modern twists, according to new research from Ocean Spray. Almost 4 in 10 (38%) UK consumers say that they enjoy trying modern twists on classic cocktails, with around half (43%) agreeing that more classic cocktails should be brought back into fashion. Similarly, 42% would like to see more bars, pubs and restaurants offering classic cocktails or a modern twist on them on their menus.

As the creator of one of the Cosmopolitan’s original and defining ingredients - cranberry juice - Ocean Spray is perfectly positioned to breathe new life into the much-loved serve, championing its versatility across both alcoholic and non-alcoholic occasions.

The new recipes include a reworked classic short serve, plus a longer, more refreshing variation, as well as a mocktail option of each, designed to appeal to a wide range of drinking preferences.

The Cosmo Hold Up (short serve)

A vibrant twist on a modern classic.

Ingredients:

• 45ml citrus vodka,

• 15ml Aperol,

• 30ml Ocean Spray Classic cranberry juice,

• 15ml lime juice,

• 15ml passionfruit syrup.

• Garnish: passionfruit

Method:

1. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker, add ice, shake

2. Fine strain into coupe glass, garnish with passionfruit

Mocktail version:

Ingredients:

• 45ml still lemonade,

• 15ml grapefruit juice,

• 10ml ginger juice,

• 30ml Ocean Spray Classic cranberry juice,

• 15ml lime juice,

• 20ml passionfruit syrup

• Garnish: passionfruit

Cosmo Berry Blush (long serve)

A lighter, fruit-forward take on the original.

Ingredients:

45ml citrus vodka,

15ml Cointreau,

45ml Ocean Spray Classic cranberry juice,

15ml lime juice,

15ml elderflower syrup,

Muddled berries (3 raspberries and 1 strawberry),

Topped with soda water

Garnish: mint, strawberries and raspberries

Method:

1. Muddle (squish) the raspberries and strawberry at the bottom of a cocktail shaker

2. Add all the other ingredients to the shaker, apart from the soda water

3. Shake and finely strain into a highball glass, filled with ice

4. Top with soda water and garnish with mint, strawberry and raspberry

Mocktail version:

Ingredients:

• 15ml orange syrup (or 1tsp orange marmalade),

• 45ml Ocean Spray Classic cranberry juice,

• 15ml lime juice,

• Muddled berries (3 raspberries and 1 strawberry),

• Top with sparkling elderflower presse

• Garnish: mint, strawberries and raspberries

The final recipes were reviewed and chosen in a focus group including experts from Ocean Spray, Lennie Ware and industry insiders, all scored based on taste, visual appeal and their ability to stay true to the essence of the original Cosmopolitan while delivering a contemporary twist.

First popularised in the 1990s – thanks in part to its association with Sex and the City – the Cosmopolitan has long been a symbol of style and sophistication, having been first mentioned back in 1927. Today, with renewed interest in nostalgic culture and a growing appetite for elevated classics, with a variety of alcoholic strength options, Ocean Spray believed now was the time to reintroduce the cocktail to a new generation.

It’s a true classic and the perfect cocktail for me! It’s such a great drink to have when you’re at a bar, restaurant or pub, and so easy to make at home too. Plus, a perfect cocktail to add your own twist - my own personal recipe uses oranges instead of limes.”

About the Cosmopolitan cocktail

The Cosmopolitan itself has existed in various incarnations since a 1927 appearance in Harry McElhone’s ‘Barflies and cocktails’ (although a markedly different recipe); with credit for the modern recipe often split between Cheryl Cook in South Beach and Toby Cecchini in Manhattan. Dale DeGroff is widely credited with popularising a definitive recipe (which includes Cranberry Juice, Citrus Vodka, Cointreau, Lime Juice and Orange Peel for garnish), following the publication of his 2002 book - The Craft of the Cocktail, though nothing did more for the drink’s popularity than its starring role alongside Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City in the late 90s and early 00s, cementing it as a cultural icon.

Classic Cosmo recipe

Ingredients: 45ml vodka (citrus vodka is preferred), 15ml Cointreau (or Triple Sec), 30ml Ocean Spray Classic cranberry juice, 15ml lime juice, orange zest or twist of orange peel.

Method:

1. Add ingredients to a shaker with ice and shake,

2. Fine strain into a coupe style glass,

3. With your orange zest or twist of orange peel, express orange oils using a flame (if you feel confident enough with a blowtorch or match), rub the peel on the glass rim and then add to the glass.
