• Leeds commits to keeping all 51 branches open until at least September 2031, with consistent opening hours every weekday

• The Society has also promised not to offer better savings rates to new customers, but to instead reward existing members for their loyalty with exclusive products

• Keeping popular savings passbooks and making sure customers can speak to colleagues without an appointment are also promised by the mutual.

Leeds Building Society has announced a series of promises to its members, including keeping all 51 branches open until at least September 2031 and ensuring that savings accounts are not offered exclusively to new customers. The Society will instead provide existing members with exclusive savings opportunities.

The promises reflect what it means to be member-owned: making long-term decisions that benefit members and giving them greater certainty about the service and value they can expect.

They cover branches, savings rates and accounts, and customer service standards in an age of increasing reliance on technology. By publishing these promises, the Society is setting out how its mutual model translates into practical benefits for members and giving them a clear basis on which to hold it to account.

Alongside committing to a physical presence on high streets across the UK, Leeds is continuing to invest in its digital services and will be launching its first mobile app later this year.

The promises to Leeds Building Society members include:

• All 51 of the Society’s branches will be kept open until at least September 2031(1).

• Branches will be open every weekday from 9.30am until 4.45pm and no appointment is needed.

• Members will always be able to speak to someone, either by visiting the Society’s branches or calling to discuss.

• The Society will not offer any savings accounts that are only for new customers. Existing savers will also receive exclusive savings opportunities, rewarding them for their loyalty; including a newly launched Branch Regular Saver product with an interest rate of 6.50%(2).

• The Society will aim to pay more than the market average savings rate. Over the last ten years, the Society has paid an average savings rate of 2.26% compared to the rest of the market average savings rate of 1.49%, meaning more interest in savers’ pockets(3).

• Members will be offered the best available rate for their chosen account when it matures. When given maturity instructions, the Society will lock in the rate of a member’s chosen account or switch it to a new issue of the same account type if the rate increases before the new account starts, helping to keep members’ money working for them.

• Savings passbooks will be retained: traditions matter to the Society, and they help members to continue saving.

Leeds Building Society data shows that branches remain well used across its customer base. More than a quarter (29%) of savings accounts opened with the Society in the previous year were opened in a branch. In fact, over half (58%) of all savings members at Leeds opened their account within a branch.

The Society has committed to review its savings promises in 12 months, while branch promises will stay in place until September 2031.

“We also believe loyalty should be rewarded, which is why existing members will have access to exclusive products rather than these being reserved for new customers. We’ve already launched a loyalty savings product, and our mortgage cashback offer, but there’s more to come as we continue to deliver lasting value for members.”

Leeds Building Society’s commitment to members goes beyond providing places to carry out transactions. Branches are central to its mutual model, offering face-to-face support that includes helping customers protect themselves from fraud. Their wider role was highlighted by research commissioned by the Building Societies Association and supported by Leeds earlier in 2026, which found that the Society’s branch network contributes up to £286 million in social value to the communities it serves(4).

One example of that wider support is the Society’s programme of Fraud Clinics. Over the past year, it has held more than 2,000 of the clinics in its branches to help customers recognise warning signs and learn how to protect themselves. The clinics are free and open to anyone, and no appointment is needed.
