With a disruptive, talent first mentality, Lounges.tv wants to democratise the streaming industry

Monday 21st November: New streaming platform Lounges.tv aims to disrupt the $70bn streaming market with a creator first ethos that means any creator using the platform is paid 80% of stream or content revenue within 24 hours. Lounges.tv is already working with 1,000s of content creators to share their content through the platform as people look to monetise their talents as the cost-of-living crisis cripples traditional touring, shows, and opportunities, making the creative space tougher than ever before.

Supported by leading figures in the streaming and music industry, including Ben Lavender, the founder of BBC iPlayer, and Kiran Sharma, who has managed talent including global icon Prince, Lounges.tv wants to evolve the streaming space to be a fairer and more democratic industry where people, regardless of their background and financial status can earn money from their talent.

Commenting on the launch of the platform, Ben Lavender said; “Lounges.tv is disrupting an industry that for too long hasn’t supported the community and individuals that are building careers within streaming. At a time when the cost-of-living crisis is impacting the creative industries, businesses like Lounges.tv are vital in helping build a creative future.”

Aimed at supporting up-and-coming and grassroots talent and creatives, as well as established creators and influencers, Lounges.tv is an ideal platform for those looking to be paid properly - rather than having to rely on underpaid viewing metrics, intrusive adverts, or sponsored content. With individuals in the creative industries feeling the pinch financially, for example 91% of professional musicians in Britain are facing a cost of working crisis (according to the charity Help Muscians.org) Lounges.tv wants to create a streaming model where grassroots talent can earn whilst they are establishing themselves in their industries.

Co-founder of Lounges.tv Scott Green said of the launch; “There’s an enormous wealth of talent out there and we believe that whether you’ve got 100 or 100,000 followers shouldn’t impact your ability to earn revenue from your hard work and creativity. We’ve created Lounges.tv to democratise content creation, ensuring creators of all sizes across all interests have a fair platform on which to share their content. For too long, the ability to earn from content creation has been locked behind subscriber or follower counts and viewing figures, rather than being based upon the communities and interests of creators and their fans. This space is ripe for disruption, and it’s time it shifted to let creators of all sizes, and not just those with significant followings, to be able to make money.”

The platform’s goal is to enable the millions of creators around the world to generate a viable source of income through their talents and interests thanks to Lounges.tv’s pay-per-view streaming. Whether users are musicians, podcasters, educators, fitness trainers, gamers, or comedians, they can all be paid fairly for their time. Creators set the pay-per-view price for their content or streams, users have 30 days to view it, and the creator is paid within 24 hours.

Lounges.tv is the perfect complement to creators’ other social channels while giving them control of their earnings. Creators set their own prices for streams, deciding on the number of viewers, and how they interact with them whether through chat or two-way stream. For streamer and viewer safety, creators can bring in a moderator to control chats, and dedicated tech support for content creators including helping sharpen sound and visuals helps ensure streams run seamlessly and they don’t need top of the range equipment to get started.

As part of its ongoing vision to support creators, Lounges.tv has been awarded an Arts Council England grant to help 150 London-based upcoming musicians aged 16-30 from low-income, and BAME backgrounds. Providing access to free online training with industry mentors, recording time at Pirate Studios and the support they need to stream on Lounges.tv.
