New data from GetYourGuide reveals 1 in 3 Oasis fans globally struggle to understand Liam Gallagher’s Manchester dialect

The guide arrives in response to GetYourGuide’s international customer survey*, which found that 1 in 3 Oasis fans globally struggle to understand Liam Gallagher.

Australian and Americans struggle the most with 2 in 5 American and Australian fans admitting they’re often confused over the Gallagher slang. Even closer to home, a shocking 1 in 5 Brits find Liam Gallagher challenging to follow – see how you fare yourself.

The ‘Manctionary’ a language guide educating travellers on how to talk the talk (and walk the walk) of the Gallagher brothers, features the slang and phrases used by the band, and locals. The guide is created by TikTok comedian Freddie Allison (@freddie.allison), who has amassed 3.5 million likes with his ‘How to speak British’ skits, and is the perfect companion to the Oasis concerts.

The ‘Manctionary’

“You’ve got a cob on” meaning someone’s in a mood i.e. “Get a pint in, you’ve got a right cob on”

“Top one” meaning well done or nice work i.e. “You bagged tickets to Heaton Park? Top one”

“Mint” meaning great i.e. “We’re gonna have a mint time”

“Scran’s angin” meaning the food is poor i.e. “I’m not having pie & mash, that scran’s angin’”

“Bobbins” meaning rubbish i.e. “You keks are mint mate, but those trainers are bobbins”

“Madferit” meaning I’m into it or up for it i.e. “Oasis is hitting up Cardiff - Madferit”

“R’kid” meaning brother or close friend i.e. “Me and r’kid’s favourite track is Don’t Walk Back in Anger”
