With the cost-of-living crisis affecting more and more families across the country, grant-giving children's charity Buttle UK has put a national call out to Mini/MINI car owners of all shapes, sizes, and colours to make a New Year pledge to help give a disadvantaged child a better chance in 2023.

Mini owners across the UK can do this is by participating in two fun packed events in 2023 which Buttle UK are main benefactors of: the MILE OF MINIS (MOM) challenge (a fun driving day out for classic and modern Mini car owners and their families set in the Oxfordshire countryside in March); and a 10-day European driving adventure in Italy in October.

'The Italian Job', who are the organisers of both events, have unveiled plans for the return of the hugely popular MOM event on Sunday 12th March 2023 – starting at MINI Plant Oxford and ending at Silverstone's Interactive Museum. The organisers hope to attract 400 cars, roughly the number they estimate are needed to make up a MILE OF MINIS.

The MOM will raise funds to help families struggling with the cost-of-living crisis by providing much-needed financial assistance to pay for basic items including children's beds and household appliances. Buttle UK will also use these funds to support children's education like school uniforms, computers, and books. With the ongoing impact of the COVID crisis and now the cost-of-living crisis, the event comes at a time when Buttle UK are seeing increasing demand for their grants: application rates are currently over 50% higher than they were before the pandemic.

The day starts at MINI Plant Oxford where all participating cars will gather to hopefully form a MILE!

After requisite selfies and Kodak moments, representatives from MINI UK will flag off all teams at 10am. The convoy will then head off deep into the Oxfordshire countryside following a specially devised route just after they switch off their sat navs. They will follow the directional tulip designs in their route books and venture well off the beaten track. They will avoid A Roads and Motorways with a passion, sticking instead to narrow, twisting and bend filled roads that Minis love best. Ultimately the navigational route book will whisk them to the front entrance of Silverstone’s Interactive Museum.

The Silverstone Interactive Museum is a unique experience full of hands-on displays, unique original cars, racing memorabilia and access to the real stories behind some of the most iconic moments in motorsport history. For those interested in looking around, the museum is offering a reduced entry price to MOM participants.

The organisers ask each team to do their very best to raise as much money as possible for Buttle UK, but they hope each car will secure at least £30.00. Due to the legacy left by its founder, the charity covers its own administration costs, which means 100% of any money raised will go directly to helping children in need of support.

The cost of entering a team (car plus 2 people) is £35. This includes breakfast, the Italian Job navigational roadbook, an event sticker, an Italian Job baseball hat, and a fundraising pack. Additional persons in the car will be charged £14.

At a time of spiraling prices, the impact of food and fuel poverty is stark and deeply worrying. The cyclical nature of financial difficulty and its impact on children's mental health and educational outcomes is only going to get worse as this ongoing period of crisis persists. Help us create more chances for children by taking part in either the Mile of Minis Challenge and the European driving adventure in Italy. Every £ you raise will go directly to helping children living in poverty and experiencing crisis".
