London, UK - PPE Medpro has filed its legal defence at the High Court, in response to allegations made by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) regarding the quality of its protective gowns supplied in the heart of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The defence document highlights that PPE Medpro proposed an "equivalent technical solution," which was expressly approved by DHSC's Technical Assurance team. The gowns were then produced precisely to the specification agreed. It put the blame firmly on the government's doorstep for the unusable hospital gowns.

The NHS and the rest of Europe were in dire need of protective gowns, resulting in a loosening of regulations to encourage suppliers to develop "equivalent technical solutions" to meet prescribed standards.

PPE Medpro's solution was expressly approved by DHSC's Technical Assurance team during the procurement process. The gowns were then produced in line with what had been approved.

In response to DHSC's complaints, a spokesperson for PPE Medpro stated, "DHSC's complaints have been contrived after the event, and are hollow. We produced all certifications for sterility when delivering the batches of gowns, showing a validated process for attaining the required level of sterility."
