Nearly 30,000 energy-saving measured installed by E.ON

More than 19,000 vulnerable customers’ lives improved through warmer, more comfortable homes

£514 million in funding secured for work with 148 partners since 2020

E.ON has brought together housing professionals from across Yorkshire, Humber and Lincolnshire, sharing examples of how energy efficiency schemes provide benefits ranging from lower bills and warmer, more comfortable homes, to reduced carbon emissions in cities and communities.

At an exclusive behind-the-scenes event at its Blackburn Meadows renewable energy plant in Sheffield, E.ON shared details of its collaboration with partners across the housing sector, and how its approach involving taking on initial design and planning, to construction and final delivery, has supported more than 148 partners in securing £514 million in funding since 2020.

These works have enabled the installation of nearly 30,000 energy-saving measures, which in turn has improved the lives of more than 19,400 of some of the most vulnerable households across the region.

The session aimed to demonstrate the breadth of knowledge and support available to housing providers looking to decarbonise their properties and improve residents’ lives.

During the event, attendees had the opportunity to see first-hand how the plant uses waste wood that would otherwise go to landfill to generate low-carbon heat and electricity for connected local buildings, while learning about the wider capabilities of E.ON’s Energy Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) group.

Attendees praised the event for offering practical insights and demonstrating the real-world impact of decarbonisation projects.

Thomas Eastwood of Hull City Council’s Warm Homes Team said: “It was inspiring to see Blackburn Meadows biomass power station in action, powering the local district heating network. It was also encouraging to hear how these decarbonisation initiatives are helping local residents enjoy warmer, more comfortable homes. At Hull City Council, we are passionate about this mission and are working closely with E.ON to bring warmer, more affordable housing to communities across the city.”

Reflecting on the event, Joe Hill, Business Development Manager at E.ON, shared his experience: “I have seen first-hand the benefits that Green Funding Solutions bring to improve the lives of residents most in need. Our focus is on installing measures that reduce bills for residents, such as insulation to lower heat demand, energy generation through solar, and low-carbon heat for more efficient heating systems.”
