Thursday 23rd July 2026 - UK: Cup, cone or…pud?! An ice creamery in Yorkshire has revealed an innovative yet unexpected food combination that might just be summer’s next food trend - serving ice cream in Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire Puddings.

Dubbed the ‘Sundae Roast’, the stroke of genius from the family-run Yorkshire Dales Ice Cream company utilises the roast dinner staple as a serving hack - soaking up all the delicious drips in a perfectly shaped vessel for ice cream scoops. On the menu for local foodie fans until 31st July, the dish can also be prepped in just 5 minutes in an air fryer at home for those across the nation wanting to get in on the trend.

Whilst typically used almost exclusively for gravy, the Yorkshire Pudding also brings together the best parts of an ice cream cup and cone for something even more scrumptious. A little sweet, a little savoury and unmistakably British, the summer dessert and roast dinner staple combine to create an unexpectedly harmonious treat.

The mashup has already sparked local curiosity in Yorkshire since landing on menus, with customers queuing up to try it for themselves and early reactions from customers suggesting it could become the next food trend.

Scott Rogers, owner of Yorkshire Dales Ice Cream, said: "The Yorkshire Pudding is one of our county’s most famous exports, but there are so many more ways for people to enjoy them beyond a Sunday roast. We loved the idea of celebrating the Yorkshire Pudding in a completely unexpected way, and wanted to bring that excitement back to the home of the pud in Yorkshire.

It’s definitely gotten a few raised eyebrows from the traditionalists, but most people are quickly converted, so I’d encourage people to try it for themselves and make up their mind. It's a bit of fun, it's proudly Yorkshire, and judging by the reactions so far, it may just be here to stay.”

The innovation was inspired by Aunt Bessie's collaboration with Anya Hindmarch's Ice Cream Project, which introduced a Vanilla and Golden Syrup flavoured ice cream with chunks of Aunt Bessie’s Golden Glorious Yorkshire Puddings as part of the annual pop up that opened in London in June. It also follows other recent innovations such as the “British burrito”, as Britain continues to extend its love of the Yorkshire Pudding beyond the roast dinner plate.

The Sundae Roast will be available at Yorkshire Dales Ice Cream in Skipton as a summer special until 31st July, so ice cream lovers and pudding aficionados will need to be quick to get their hands on this delicious new British treat.

For those who cannot make it to Yorkshire, Scott says the recipe is simple and quick to recreate at home:

● Preheat the air fryer to 200°C for 3 to 4 minutes

● Place up to four frozen Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire Puddings in a single layer in the basket

● Air fry the Yorkshire Puddings for 2 to 3 minutes until they are piping hot, golden, and crispy

● Remove from the air fryer and leave to cool on a rack for 15 minutes

● Once room temperature, place 1 to 2 scoops of ice cream right into the pudding and serve

● They can work with any flavours or toppings, so have fun with it!
