This week, Saga released new research which found that the over-50s are net contributors to the UK economy, contributing £602 billion to UK plc every year – £561 billion of that through paid employment.
Saga’s Chief Insight Officer, Lisa Edgar:
"The Chancellor’s introduction of later-life apprenticeships is a welcomed first step in creating a more equitable, flexible labour market. The reality is that over-50s contribute £602 billion to UK plc every year and support society in hugely diverse ways, every day, including through volunteering and childcare support. Government and business must continue to collaborate in this way to shape a world of work that appeals to an ageing society. It is not just about money – over-50s need to feel valued and welcomed in the workplace.”
