Ten Team GB riders have travelled to Hungary where they will attempt to become European Champions for the second successive year. They are competing at the 2023 IWWF Cable Wakeboard European & African Youth and Senior Championships.

The eagerly-awaited competition takes place at the West Side Cable Park in Gyor, Hungary, this week and is shaping up to be a showcase of exceptional skill, sportsmanship, and high-flying tricks featuring seasoned athletes from across Europe and Africa.

The GB team is looking to build on last year's performance where they claimed the Team Gold medal at the 2022 Championships in Denmark. The team includes several family members, including siblings Summer and Samuel Bradbury from Hemel Hempstead and Callum and Jessie Saunders from Milton Keynes.

Cable wakeboarding competitions are a demonstrate of spectacular talent involving breathtaking flips, spins, and aerial manoeuvres. Athletes from all age categories in the Youth and Senior divisions will compete for the titles and will be aiming to push the boundaries of what's possible in the sport of wakeboarding.

The IWWF Wakeboard European & African Youth and Senior Championships 2023 isn't merely a contest; it's a celebration of the camaraderie and passion that define wakeboarding. Competitors will not only strive for individual glory but also embrace the collective spirit of this exhilarating sport.

The Team GB wakeboarding squad is composed of a diverse mix of athletes aged from 12 to over 40. All eyes will be on these 10 riders as they look to impress on an international stage and contribute to Great Britain's successful history in wake sports.

Cable Wakeboarding

Wakeboarders wear boots that are attached to the board (like snowboarders). The riders use a cable tow and perform tricks over obstacles or features at a specially designed wake park. They are scored on the difficulty and variety of their tricks and how well they perform them, for example their airtime, height, control and style.

British Water Ski & Wakeboard (BWSW) is the sport’s national governing body and a non-profit making membership organisation. All its income is invested in developing and protecting water skiing and wakeboarding across the UK from the grassroots to our top athletes.

The International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) is the sport’s world governing body to which national organisations such as BWSW are affiliated.
