A large squad of British boat wakeboarders is travelling to Spain to compete at the Europe & Africa Wakeboard Championships, which take place in Deltebre in the province of Tarragona, next week.

Seventeen riders of all ages, accompanied by a Team Manager, will be there. Practice sessions begin on 13 October with the competition rounds from 15 to 18 October.

Among those in the GB team are brother and sister, Charlie (17) and Isabelle (15) Lloyd from Burntwood in Staffordshire. Although still only teenagers, they are seasoned international competitors. Both represented their country at the World Championships in 2022 and at two previous Europe & Africa Championships (The Euros) – in 2023 and 2024.

Isabelle, a pupil at the Erasmus Darwin Academy in Burntwood, has had an exceptional season, during which she chose to compete in the Open Women category at the UK Nationals and won gold against older, more experienced riders. She has six previous National titles in the Groms or Girls age category, dating back to 2017. She will compete in Junior Women at the 2025 Euros.

Charlie, who will compete in Junior Men, has three National titles across the age categories and was second in Junior Men at the 2025 Nationals.

Six of the GB riders are making their Team GB debut, including another pair of siblings. The team debutants are:

Holly Mathias (14) from Brecon in Powys. The student at Christ College in Brecon, trains at Llangorse Lake and will compete in Under 14 Girls.

James Mathias (15) from Brecon in Powys. Holly’s brother, he also attends Christ College in Brecon and trains at Llangorse Lake. He will compete in Junior Men.

Lily Williams (14) from Bristol. She is a pupil at the Sir Bernard Lovell Academy in Oldland Common near Bristol and trains at Cotswold Water Ski Club in South Cerney, Gloucestershire. She competes in Junior Women.

Addison Newton (15) from Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire. He is a pupil at Long Field Spencer Academy in Melton Mowbray. He trains at Tallington Lakes near Stamford in Lincolnshire and will compete in Junior Men.

Libby Truman (17) from Tunbridge Wells in Kent. Libby is at Bede’s Senior School in Upper Dicker near Hailsham in East Sussex. She trains at LDB Wakeschool in Chertsey, Surrey and will compete in Junior Women.

Ed McDonnell (36) from King’s Lynn, Norfolk. Ed trains at Pentney Lakes near King’s Lynn and will compete in Over 30s Men.

The rest of the GB squad is:

Travis Beaton (24) from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Travis trains and coaches at LDB Wakeschool in Chertsey, Surrey, and this will be his third competition as Team Captain. Travis has represented GB at five Euros and one World Championships. He will compete in Open Men.

Marley O’Toole (15) from Camberley. Surrey. Marley goes to Ravenscote Junior School in Frimley, Surrey and trains at LDB Wakeschool in Chertsey, Surrey. Marley has represented GB at one World Championships and three Euros (2022, 2023, 2024), winning the silver medal in the Boys category in 2024. He is the only rider who is in the GB squad for both boat wakeboarding and cable wakeboarding. At the 2025 Euros, he will compete in Junior Men.

Jake Williams (18 – will turn 19 on 13 October) from Reading in Berkshire. He trains at Isis Waterski & Wakeboard Club in Caversham, Berkshire and will compete in Junior Men. He made his debut for GB at the 2024 Euros.

Olli Loder (20) from Bournemouth, Dorset. Olli trains at Xtreme Gene in Spain, Ellingham Water Ski & Wakeboard Club in Ringwood, Hampshire and at LDB Wakeschool in Chertsey, Surrey. He competed at the 2022 World Championships and two Euros – in 2019 and 2024. He will compete in Open Men.

Joe Humphries (21) from Geddington, Northamptonshire. A student at Lincoln University, he trains at Xtreme Wake, Grendon Lakes in Northamptonshire and is the 2025 National Open Men’s Champion. He has represented GB at two World Championships (2019 and 2022) and three Euros (2016, 2018 and 2022). He competes in Open Men at the 2025 Euros.

Charlotte Millward (30) from Stafford. Charlotte trains at Chasewater Sports Centre in Staffordshire. She has competed at four World Championships (between 2015 and 2024) and eight Euros (between 2013 and 2024). She will compete in Open Women.

Aran McGuckin (32) lives in Madrid. His training site is Tattershall Lakes near Lincoln. He has been to one previous Euros – in 2024 – and will compete in Masters Men.

Mark Osmond (59) from Elstead, Surrey. Mark trains at Isis Waterski & Wakeboard Club in Caversham, Berkshire. He has represented GB at three World Championships (2018, 2022, 2024) and six Euros (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023). He competes in Senior Men.

Morgan Williams (26), who was born in Northampton, lives at Loch Lomond in Scotland - where he coaches at the wakeboard school - and also in Cornwall when he is not at Loch Lomond. He is competing in Open Men as an individual rider and not as part of the GB Team.

The GB Team Manager is Jeremy Nevill from Portishead in Somerset.

What is Boat Wakeboarding?

It is like a combination of snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing. The rider performs tricks over two runs while being towed by a boat. Judges watching from the boat determine the score, which is based on several criteria, including the execution, intensity and composition of the tricks successfully performed. The highest score wins. The other type of wakeboarding is cable wakeboarding where riders use a cable tow and perform tricks over obstacles or features at a specially designed wake park.
