Competitors will be battling it out to become British Champions in a week’s time at the Boat Wakeboard and Wakesurf Championships in Northamptonshire.

The Malibu UK Nationals will be held at Xtreme Wake, Grendon Lakes from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd July with entrants ranging in age from under 10 to over 50.

“We're very excited to be holding the National Championships at Xtreme Wake for the very first time,” said Jeremy Nevill, Chairman of Wakeboard UK, which is organising the event.

“We have been working with the team there for some time on this and it’s going to be an awesome venue. With the course running past the viewing area, spectators can look forward to seeing some spectacular riding and surfing behind the Malibu 23LSV”.

In wakeboarding, national titles will be awarded for males and females in different age categories, with novice and intermediate categories for those that don't wish to compete against the nation’s best in the Open competition. In Wakesurf there are categories for both skim and surf style boards.

Entering the Nationals is a proviso of being included in the Team GB Squad so there is bound to be some top-level riding and fierce competition next weekend. Many of those taking part will be hoping to do enough to secure selection for international competitions for 2024. They include the IWWF (International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation) World Championships, and the Europe & Africa Championships.

About wakeboarding

Boat wakeboarding can be described as having elements of water skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing. The rider rides the wakeboard on the water while being towed by a boat. A run comprises a pass along the lake and back and ends when the rider completes the course or on the second fall. The rider is scored on the execution, intensity, and composition of tricks, with each unique trick counting. Judges watching from the boat determine the score.

About wakesurfing

Boat wakesurfing can be described as surfing on the wake behind a boat. The rider starts by being towed by the boat on the water then lets go of the line to ride the wake. A run comprises a pass along the lake and back and ends when the rider completes the course or falls for a second time. The rider is scored on the execution, intensity, difficulty and variety of tricks.
